INVITING MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS TO EXPLORE HOW SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
CAN MAKE ANIMALS' LIVES EASIER, HEALTHIER
MANHATTAN
-- A one-day program at Kansas State University will show middle
school girls how an affinity for animals can lead to a career as
a scientist or engineer.
AAH!,
the All 4 Animal Health event, will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday,
Feb. 24. Girls in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades from across
Kansas will see where science and engineering intersect with animal
health.
The
girls will work in small groups led by graduate and upper-level
undergraduate veterinary medicine students at K-State. Hands-on
activities will show girls how scientists and engineers help make
animals' lives easier and healthier. Teachers are invited to observe
and may find activities to use in their classrooms.
Cost
is $10 and includes event participation and lunch. Teachers will
pay a $5 fee for lunch. Financial scholarships for students are
available. The registration deadline is Monday, Feb. 12, although
registration will remain open until the event is full. Registration
forms in English and Spanish are available online at http://www.k-state.edu/grow/girls/upcoming.htm
The
program is sponsored by K-State's Girls Researching Our World. For
more information, call Susan Arnold Christian at 785-532-6152 or
