CAROL MARTIN WATTS NAMED ACTING ASSOCIATE HEAD OF K-STATE'S DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE

MANHATTAN -- Carol Martin Watts, professor of architecture at Kansas State University, has accepted the position of acting associate head of the department of architecture at K-State's College of Architecture, Planning and Design. Watts is serving an 18-month term.

David Sachs, professor and head of the department, said Watts' major responsibility will be directing the department's graduate programs as they transition to new degrees that have gone into effect this year. She also will coordinate various publications and assist the department head. Watts will continue to teach one course each semester.

Watts has a bachelor's degree from Mount Holyoke College, a master of architecture degree from the University of Washington and a doctorate from the University of Texas-Austin.

She has taught at K-State since 1983 and was promoted to professor in 2001. She previously served as director of graduate studies in the department of architecture from 1992-97 and as acting head of the department of environmental design from 1989-90.
