K-STATE'S
LANDON LECTURE SERIES TO KICK OFF 2007 WITH PRESENTATION BY PRINCE
TURKI AL-FAISAL, OUTGOING SAUDI AMBASSADOR TO THE U.S.
MANHATTAN
-- The outgoing Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States, Prince
Turki Al-Faisal, will present the first Landon Lecture of 2007 at
Kansas State University.
Prince
Turki's lecture will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, in K-State's
McCain Auditorium.
"As
the Saudi ambassador to the United States, Prince Turki can provide
a firsthand perspective about many of the challenges facing the
U.S. in the Middle East today," said Charles Reagan, chair
of the Landon Lecture Series.
Prince
Turki became the Saudi ambassador to the U.S. in July 2005; he announced
his resignation in December 2006. He also has served as his country's
ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland. His other appointments
have included being appointed an adviser to the Saudi royal court
in 1973 and as director general of Saudi Arabia's main foreign intelligence
service, the General Intelligence Directorate, from 1977 to 2001.
The
prince is one of the founders of the King Faisal Foundation and
is chair of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies
in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In addition, he is co-chair of the C100
Group.
Among
the guests expected at Prince Turki's Landon Lecture will be some
of K-State's around 100 students from Saudi Arabia, Reagan said.
The Saudi government is helping thousands of its young students
to study at universities in the United States, including K-State,
by providing scholarship support.
The
lecture also can be heard live on the Web at http://www.k-state.edu/landon
