Dance group extending McCain visit to do something special for military families

Friday, Feb. 15, 2013

MANHATTAN -- Modern dance will take on several forms this month at Kansas State University with the help of the Joe Goode Performance Group.

The dance troupe will give two separate performances at the university, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at McCain Auditorium with "The Rambler" for the McCain Performance Series.

The group uses dance, song and spoken word to blur the line between theater and dance, providing entertainment and inspiration. "The Rambler" has been described as "part American cultural icon, part global historic figure; Clint Eastwood meets Siddhartha."

Tickets for "The Rambler" cost $13.50-$55 plus applicable taxes and fees. They can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office, by phone at 785-532-6428 or online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain.

The performance group will extend its stay at the university with a new performance based on its time in the community. The group will be meeting with military families and individuals following its initial performance to develop an upcoming performance for its "Human Kind" series.

"Human Kind" is an experimental performance series centered on a particular aspect of being human, using real stories from the community to drive creation. After meeting with military families to discuss their experiences, the Joe Goode Performance Group will provide a public performance of the latest addition to the series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Nichols Theater.

More information will be provided about this performance. The project with the Joe Goode Performance Group was developed with the help of the Institute for the Health and Security of Military Families, McCain Auditorium and Kansas State University.
