JOSEPH ZELLNER TO GIVE BLACK HISTORY MONTH PRESENTATION AT K-STATE AT SALINA
SALINA -- Joseph Zellner will present a character interpretation and presentation at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the College Center Conference Room at Kansas State University at Salina. The event is part of K-State's Black History Month observance.
Zellner, a student and teacher of African and United States history, is the historian for the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Company A, Re-enactors Club.
In "The Colored Soldier in the Civil War," Zellner portrays Solomon Pierce, a private in the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
From his research, Zellner has learned about Pierce, a black farmer from Massachusetts, who served from December 1863 until the South's surrender in 1865. Zellner's presentation also includes an expanded history of black soldiers' participation in the Civil War.
The presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Levi Esses at 785-826-2610.
