K-STATE PROFESSOR OF PARK MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION TO GIVE LARSON LECTURE
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Ted Cable, professor of park management and conservation, will present "The French Connection" as part of the Vernon Larson International Luncheon-Lecture Series.
The lecture is 12:15-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the Holiday Inn at the Campus, 17th Street and Anderson Avenue. A luncheon is available before the lecture and starts at 11:45 a.m. The luncheon is $12 and reservations are required. Reservations also are required to attend the lecture, which is free. Both luncheon and lecture reservations can be made by contacting K-State's office of international programs, 785-532-5990, by Friday, March 7.
Cable's lecture will be on the linkage between K-State and the Blaise Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He will introduce the audience to the Auvergne region of France, which he describes as a relatively unknown, off-the-beaten-path part of France and the home of Blaise Pascal University.
Cable specializes in taking facts about the environment and turning them into stories and experiences that help in the understanding of the world's natural resources. He helps museums, zoos, and public and private industries present information to the public that is interesting and educational. He has worked with national park programs in West Africa, Mexico and Paraguay, as well as in addition the United States. He led the first K-State study tours of Africa and has won several K-State teaching and advising awards. In 2005, he was awarded the William C. Everhart Award from Clemson University for achievements in fostering appreciation of cultural and historic heritage. He also was awarded the Kansas Conservation Communicator of the Year Award in 2007. Cable has authored and co-authored eight books, including one on conservation in Africa with a foreword by famed conservationist Jane Goodall.
The Vernon Larson International Luncheon-Lecture Series was started in 1979 by Vernon C. Larson, then director of international agriculture programs at K-State. The series consists of six lectures, three presented in the fall semester and three in the spring semester, and offers the K-State community a chance to hear presentations from faculty who have recently participated in extensive overseas activity or who are involved in major international activities.
