LECTURE SPEAKER TO PRESENT 'HUNTING HANTAVIRUS IN PARAGUAY'
MANHATTAN
-- Douglas Goodin, professor of geography at Kansas State University,
will present "Hunting the Hantavirus in Paraguay" in the
first Vernon Larson International Luncheon Lecture of the spring
semester.
The
lecture will be Monday, Feb. 12, at the Holiday Inn, 17th Street
and Anderson Avenue. A luncheon starting at 11:45 a.m. will precede
the lecture. Cost for the luncheon is $10. Reservations are needed
by Friday, Feb. 9, with the office of international programs at
785-532-5990. The lecture will begin at 12:20 p.m. and is free and
open to the public.
Goodin
will discuss his research on the hantavirus in Paraguay and South
America in general. He also will talk about some of the scientific
findings of his research, as well as discussing the country of Paraguay
itself and how the environmental changes in the country may be contributing
to emergence of new strains of the hantavirus.
The
Friends of International Programs at K-State is sponsoring the lecture
series. The lecture series was started in 1979 by Vernon C. Larson,
then director of international agriculture programs at K-State.
The series consists of six lectures, three presented during the
fall semester and three presented during the spring semester, and
offers the K-State and Manhattan communities a chance to hear presentations
from faculty who have recently participated in extensive overseas
activity or who are involved in major international activities.
