K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE NAMES 18 STUDENTS AS AG AMBASSADORS: The college's Ag Ambassadors work with prospective students, alumni and industry leaders, as well faculty and students within the college. The ambassadors assist with activities both on and off campus that help promote the college.

MUSICAL COLLECTIVE LEAHY TO PERFORM AT K-STATE: Kansas State University's McCain Performance Series will present the multitalented musical collective Leahy at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in McCain Auditorium.

K-STATE BLUE KEY SENIOR LEADERSHIP HONORARY ORGANIZES ANNUAL CONFERENCE THAT BRINGS AWARDS TO K-STATE CHAPTER, STUDENTS: Kansas State University's chapter of Blue Key organized an annual conference Jan. 19 and 20 that included 88 participants from 16 chapters of the senior honorary across the country.

WORKSHOP TEACHES K-STATE STUDENTS HOW TO HANDLE AN INTERVIEW CONDUCTED OVER A MEAL WITH GRACE AND COURTESY: The workshop will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the Gold Room at Derby Dining Center. During the workshop, students will learn etiquette tips and techniques as they dine.

PRESENTATION IN K-STATE'S PROVOST'S LECTURE SERIES TO EXPLORE HOW MINORITY AND MAJORITY STUDENTS CAN TALK EFFECTIVELY ABOUT DIVERSITY: Vasti Torres will present "The Journey Toward the Middle for the Oppressed and Intolerant" from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 13, at Fielder Hall Auditorium. The presentation is part of the Provost's Lecture Series and is co-sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. The lecture is free and open to the public.

FORMER K-STATE PERCUSSION PROFESSOR COMING BACK TO CAMPUS FOR PERFORMANCE MARCH 4: Anthony Di Sanza, former director of percussion studies at K-State, will perform at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. He and pianist Jessica Johnson will perform as Sole Nero, a piano and percussion duo. Admission is free.

K-STATE'S ALL-UNIVERSITY OPEN HOUSE INCLUDES 11TH ANNUAL MANHATTAN MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD: Students in grades 5-12 are invited to take part in some challenging mathematical fun at the 11th annual Manhattan Mathematical Olympiad Saturday, April 14, at Kansas State University. The olympiad is part of K-State's All-University Open House activities.

K-STATE'S VETERINARY MEDICAL TEACHING HOSPITAL OFFERING UNDERWATER REHABILITATION TREATMENT: Dogs and cats may find themselves under water for rehabilitation at Kansas State University's Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

K-STATE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING INSTITUTE INTERNS AND ASSOCIATE ENGINEER RECEIVE CERTIFICATION: Two student interns and an associate engineer at Kansas State University's Advanced Manufacturing Institute are now Certified SolidWorks Professionals.

NEW COPYING SERVICES COMING TO K-STATE'S HALE LIBRARY: Kansas State University's Hale Library will soon be providing digital scanners for use by library patrons. The move comes as K-State printing services will be closing its copy center in Hale Library and consolidating its copy services at its K-State Student Union location. The copy center at Hale Library will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 9.

K-STATE CRISIS RESPONSE WORKSHOP WINS EXCEPTIONAL CONFERENCE PROGRAM AWARD: The Association for Continuing Higher Education has awarded its 2007 Region VIII Exceptional Conference Program Award to the Crisis Response Project Workshop offered through Kansas State University's department of communications and the K-State Division of Continuing Education.

K-STATE PROUD CAMPAIGN RAISES MORE THAN $62,500: The Kansas State University Student Foundation's K-State Proud: Students Changing Lives Campaign has raised $62,572 to help K-State students.

K-STATE SURGEONS PERFORM WORLD'S FIRST HIP REPLACEMENT ON ALPACA: Surgeons at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at Kansas State University made history when they successfully completed the world's first total hip replacement on an alpaca earlier this month.

K-STATE JENNA KENNEDY PROCEEDS TO FINAL ROUND OF COMPETITION FOR TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP: Kansas State University senior Jenna Kennedy, Hoxie, has been selected for the final round of competition for a 2007 Harry S. Truman Scholarship. The national scholarships provide up to $30,000 for college students preparing for a career of leadership in public service.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN OFFERING TWO DAYS OF DESIGNEXPO: DesignExpo will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 2. Both sessions will be in the ballroom of the K-State Student Union.

K-STATE AT SALINA TO OFFER AVIATION AND TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT CLASSES AT FORT RILEY: Aviation and technology management classes at Kansas State University at Salina will soon take off at Fort Riley. Faculty from K-State at Salina will begin offering classes in the aviation maintenance, professional pilot and technology management curriculums starting March 26. Enrollment begins immediately.

K-STATE ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING STUDENT RECEIVES GRANT: Jeremy Dreiling, a fifth-year senior in architectural engineering at Kansas State University, has been awarded an American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Graduate Student Grant-in-Aid for the 2007-2008 academic year.

K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE TEAM PLAN ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK: Kansas State University's College of Business Administration, in conjunction with K-State's Students in Free Enterprise Team, will sponsor several events as part of "EntrepreneurshipWeek USA," Feb. 24-March 3.

K-STATE NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL BIOSECURITY CENTER DIRECTOR SPEAKER AT BIOSECURITY SYMPOSIUM: David R. Franz, director of Kansas State University's National Agricultural Biosecurity Center, gave a presentation on some of the vulnerabilities and threats to the nation's livestock industry at a symposium on agricultural biosecurity, a part of the annual meeting of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, Feb. 15-19, in San Francisco.

K-STATE NOMINATES FIVE STUDENTS FOR UDALL SCHOLARSHIPS: Five Kansas State University students have been nominated for the Morris K. Udall Scholarship, a congressional scholarship honoring the former Arizona congressman for his legacy of public service.

'THIS IS OUR YOUTH' TO BE STAGED IN K-STATE'S PURPLE MASQUE THEATER: The Kansas State University Theater production of the comedy "This is Our Youth," by Kenneth Lonergan, will be presented at 8 p.m. Feb. 22-24 in East Stadium's Purple Masque Theater.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS SELECTED FOR K-STATE AT SALINA'S AVIATION DEPARTMENT: Kansas State University at Salina has selected 10 students to serve as flight instructors for the spring semester. The new instructors, along with current staff and faculty, are responsible for training incoming flight students in both ground and flight instruction.

FLU VACCINE STILL AVAILABLE FOR K-STATE STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF, AS WELL AS THEIR SPOUSES AND ADULT CHILDREN: Dr. Robert Tackett, medical director of Lafene Health Center at Kansas State University, has confirmed two types of influenza at K-State. "The flu season has finally arrived," Tackett said, but added there is still time to get the flu vaccine.

EXPERT ON RURAL AMERICAN DEMOGRAPHY PRESENTING ADAMCHAK LECTURE MARCH 5 AT K-STATE: An expert on issues affecting rural America will speak at Kansas State University as part of the Donald J. Adamchak Distinguished Lecture Series in Sociology. Kenneth M. Johnson, professor of sociology at Loyola University in Chicago, will present "The Changing Face of Rural America."

K-STATE CULTURAL STUDIES CONFERENCE TO ENTERTAIN, ENLIGHTEN: Prepare to be entertained at Kansas State University's 16th annual Cultural Studies Conference. The conference, March 8-10 at K-State, will focus around the theme of "Entertainment!"

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE EXPERT TO SPEAK AT K-STATE: Sandra M. Stith has spent her life trying to understand and heal domestic violence. Her work has expanded to include date rape, intergenerational transmission of violence and domestic violence and the single soldier.

SPEAKER TO PRESENT 'FROM NEIGHBORS TO KILLERS: ETHNIC CONFLICT IN AFRICA' AT K-STATE: Dauda Abubakar, political science professor at Ohio University, will present "From Neighbors to Killers: Ethnic Conflict in Africa," at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Hale Library's Hemisphere Room at Kansas State University.

K-STATE BRASS ENSEMBLE MAKES MUSIC IN GREECE: The K-State ensemble was invited to attend the 2007 Exploring Brass in Greece workshop in Kalavrita, Greece. A total of 120 students from 11 U.S. and Greek university ensembles combined for seven days of instruction by the Millennium Brass Quintet and master's presentations by several faculty musicians, including K-State music professors Paul Hunt and Gary Mortenson.

K-STATE ARCHITECTURE PROFESSOR'S WORK TO BE FEATURED ON HGTV: Work by Larry Bowne, assistant professor of architecture at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design, will be featured in two upcoming episodes of the show "Small Space, Big Style" on cable's Home and Garden Television or HGTV.

K-STATE SIGNS 2+2 AGREEMENT WITH COFFEYVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Kansas State University and Coffeyville Community College have developed a 2 + 2 agreement that allows students to earn an associate degree in marketing and mid-management from Coffeyville and transfer credits to K-State to complete a bachelor's degree in general business.

K-STATE STUDENTS WIN 2007 KANSAS HR GAMES: Students from Kansas State University's chapter of the Society for Human Resource Managers recently won the 2007 Kansas HR Games, defeating both the University of Kansas and Wichita State University.

K-STATE'S CENTER FOR UNDERSTANDING OF ORIGINS TO SPONSOR LECTURE BY EXPERT ON EVO-DEVO AND MORPHOLOGICAL EVOLUTION: Sean Carroll, a professor of molecular biology and genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, will present "The Making of the Fittest" at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. The event is free and open to the public.

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, TECHNOLOGY LEADER JAMES G. NEAL TO BE SPEAKER IN K-STATE'S PROVOST'S LECTURE SERIES: James G. Neal will speak from 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the Hemisphere Room at Hale Library. The lecture, originally slated for November 2006 but rescheduled because of inclement weather, is open to the public.

K-STATE CHALLENGE COURSE TO PUT LEADERSHIP, COMMUNICATION AND TEAM-BUILDING SKILLS TO THE TEST: Kansas State University is getting ready to put leadership skills on a course for success. No books will be required to master the new K-State Challenge Course, now in the early stages of development, but sneakers and a variety of mental and physical skills will come in handy.

KANSAS RURAL FAMILY HELPLINE CAN ASSIST RURAL FAMILIES, PRODUCERS HIT BY RECENT WINTER STORMS: Charlie Griffin says his phone has been ringing nonstop since damaging winter storms hit parts of western Kansas in late December and early January. Griffin is the director of the Kansas Rural Family Helpline, a program of the School of Family Studies and Human Services at Kansas State University's College of Human Ecology.

K-STATE ENGINEERING STUDENTS BENEFIT CITY OF MANHATTAN, GAIN REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE: The city of Manhattan estimates the work by a group of Kansas State University graduate students performing a service-learning project on wastewater issues recently saved the city around $9,500.

K-STATE'S JARDINE APARTMENTS TO OPEN FIRST NEW BUILDING: A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first newly constructed building at the Jardine Apartment Complex, the on-campus apartments at Kansas State University, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13.

K-STATE STUDY FINDS NEW VACCINE EFFECTIVE AGAINST DEADLY VIRAL DISEASE AFFECTING SWINE HERDS IN KANSAS: Researchers from Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine have completed a study showing that a newly-developed vaccine is effective against a deadly viral disease that is affecting swine herds in Kansas.

AWARD-WINNING 'MAN OF LA MANCHA' TO BE PERFORMED AT K-STATE: Kansas State University's McCain Performance Series will present the five-time Tony award-winning musical "Man of La Mancha" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in McCain Auditorium.

K-STATE NOMINATES THREE STUDENTS FOR TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIPS: Kansas State University is nominating three students to compete for $30,000 Harry S. Truman scholarships. James Hohenbary, assistant dean for scholarship development, said the nominees are Greg Corbin, Jenna Kennedy and Molly Kuhlman.

K-STATE FORENSICS TEAM CONTINUES SUCCESSFUL SEASON: Kansas State University's forensics team, K-State Speech Unlimited, has started off the new year with several successful tournaments.

RESEARCHERS FROM K-STATE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE RECEIVE GRANT TO CONDUCT STEM CELL-BASED CANCER STUDIES: Two researchers at Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine have received a $100,000 grant to research stem cell therapy in the treatment of lung cancer.

K-STATE TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH DURING FEBRUARY: During the month of February, Kansas State University will celebrate Black History Month with a variety of events and activities. The theme of the month is "Digging Deeper."

MONITORING ETHICS OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATORS NOW A GLOBAL EFFORT, SAYS K-STATE PROFESSOR, CO-EDITOR OF 'COMBATING CORRUPTION, ENCOURAGING ETHICS': When the first edition of "Combating Corruption, Encouraging Ethics" was published in 1990, co-editor William L. Richter, Kansas State University professor of political science, said management ethics was mostly an American preoccupation.

FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO SOUTH AFRICA TO SPEAK AT K-STATE AS PART OF THOMPSON CIVIL RIGHTS LECTURE SERIES: Edward J. Perkins, the first black U.S. ambassador to South Africa and to the United Nations, and the first black director general of the U.S. Foreign Services, will speak at Kansas State University Tuesday, Feb. 20, as part of the Dorothy Thompson Civil Rights Lecture Series.

FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON TO PRESENT 148TH LANDON LECTURE AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY: Former President Bill Clinton will give a Landon Lecture at Kansas State University. His lecture, the 148th in the prestigious series, will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, in Bramlage Coliseum.

K-STATE STUDENTS HELP WITH SHEPHERD'S CROSSING ENERGY PROJECT: Eighteen students from the department of architectural engineering and construction science will be conducting energy surveys in the homes of Shepherd's Crossing clients, evaluating the homes for energy efficiency and making recommendations for modifications to the homes, the heating and cooling equipment, and energy use habits.
