WORKS FROM K-STATE WATERCOLOR SEMINAR TO BE ON DISPLAY IN CHANG GALLERY
MANHATTAN -- Selected watercolors from Kansas State University architecture professor James S. Jones' seminar "The Art of Presentation" are on display through Jan. 13, 2009, in the Chang gallery of Seaton Hall.
The works are examples of the demonstrations and student exercises from the past three years of the seminar, which focuses on developing basic skills in watercolor so that students may produce a photo-realistic representation of an architectural subject. Samples from seminar exercises are part of the exhibition, as well as descriptions and demonstrations by Jones. Other works by Jones are used to demonstrate the range of possibilities for watercolor rendering, techniques and painting strategies.
Samples from each of the College of Architecture Planning and Design's departments are represented in the show.
Jones has been a member of the architecture faculty since 1982. He exhibits his artwork locally at the Strecker-Nelson Gallery, Manhattan Arts Center, Chang Gallery and Columbian Arts Center. In addition to being shown and collected in thirty states of the U.S., his work also has been shown in Canada, England, Italy, Honduras, Micronesia and Turkey. In addition, his work has been exhibited at the University of Kansas, University of Arkansas, University of Puget Sound, University of Washington, Auburn University, University of Calgary, Mount Royal College and Arizona State University.
