FALL COMMENCEMENT TIME AT K-STATE: CEREMONIES DEC. 12 AND 13

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's fall commencement ceremonies will be Friday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 13, in Manhattan and Salina. More than 1,300 K-State students are candidates for degrees.

K-State will award more than 1,100 bachelor's degrees, nearly 200 master's degrees, about 35 doctoral degrees and about 15 associate degrees. Around 25 students will receive multiple degrees. More than 120 students earned their degrees through K-State distance education programs.

Ceremonies include:

* K-State Graduate School, 1 p.m. Dec. 12, Bramlage Coliseum.
* K-State at Salina, 7 p.m. Dec. 12, Kansas Highway Patrol Headquarters, Troop J, 2025 E. Iron Ave., Salina.
* College of Arts and Sciences, 9 a.m. Dec. 13, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Human Ecology, 9 a.m. Dec. 13, McCain Auditorium.
* College of Education, 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Business Administration, noon Dec. 13, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Agriculture, 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13, Bramlage Coliseum.
* College of Engineering, 3 p.m. Dec. 13, Bramlage Coliseum.

Speakers for the Dec. 12 ceremonies include Chris Sorensen, K-State's university distinguished professor of physics and the 2007 CASE/Carnegie national professor of the year for research/doctoral universities, for the Graduate School, and Wilma Mankiller, first female chief of the Cherokee Nation, for K-State at Salina.

Speakers for ceremonies Dec. 13 include Michael Wesch, K-State assistant professor of cultural anthropology and the 2008 Carnegie/CASE national professor of the year for research/doctoral universities, College of Arts and Sciences; Deborah Canter, head of K-State's department of hospitality management and dietetics, College of Human Ecology; Marjorie Hancock, K-State professor of elementary education, College of Education; Melvin Hunt, K-State professor of food science and industry, College of Agriculture; Lt. Gen. Robert E. Durbin, special assistant to the chief of staff of the Army for enterprise management and former commander of Fort Riley, College of Business Administration; and Richard Gallagher, associate dean of K-State's College of Engineering, for the college.

At the Graduate School ceremony, the Medal of Excellence, K-State's highest honor, will be presented to Paul Edgerley, a 1978 graduate of the K-State College of Business Administration. Edgerley is managing director at Bain Capital Inc., a private investment firm in Boston with more than $45 million in assets under management.
