K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART OFFERS FAMILY FUN OVER WINTER BREAK
MANHATTAN -- The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University will be open for families looking for something fun and educational to do over winter break.
The Beach Museum's regular hours are in effect, except Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1 when the museum will be closed for the holidays. Otherwise, the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays.
Besides its latest exhibitions that visitors can tour, the Beach Museum has ARTotes available for families. ARTotes contain activities for teaching children about color, lines and other elements of art.
The museum's Exploration Station is currently offering activities with themes that coincide with the exhibitions "Return of the Yellow Peril: A Survey of the Work of Roger Shimomura, 1969-2007" and "Sandzens from the Sandzen." Activities include children's books about Japanese-American relocation camps like the one Shimomura was sent to as a child, and searching for pop art icons in Shimomura's work. Children also can handle reproductions of the tools used by Birger Sandzen, including a palette, and put together puzzles of Sandzen's paintings.
For more information, call 785-532-7718 or drop by the museum on the southeast corner of the K-State campus at 14th Street and Anderson Avenue. Free visitor parking is available next to the building.
