K-STATE STUDENT UNION OFFICERS WIN AWARDS FROM ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE UNIONS INTERNATIONAL
MANHATTAN -- The president of Kansas State University's Union Program Council and the executive director of the K-State Student Union have been honored at a recent meeting of the Association of College Unions International.
Kyle Malone, senior in political science, Dodge City, and Union Program Council president, received the Outstanding Student Achievement Award. The honor recognizes a full-time student who demonstrated excellence in academics and gave exemplary performance for a college union or in student activities work.
Bernard Pitts, assistant vice president and executive director of the K-State Student Union, received the William H. Smith Distinguished Service Award. The award was created to honor union staff members that have made exceptional contributions and demonstrated a long-term commitment to a student union. Pitts also served as the past president of the Association of College Unions International.
The association is a nonprofit educational organization at approximately 1,000 college and universities. It aims to help college unions improve their programs and services and to be effective contributors to individual growth and development. The association offers student unions services in administration, finance, campus life and programming management.
The K-State Student Union is part of Association of College Unions International's region 11, which includes participating universities from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
The K-State Student Union was founded in 1956 as the living room for the campus community and to play an integral role in the educational mission of the University. The Union offers food services, recreation, a full service bookstore, computer store, full service bank, convenience store, computer labs, copy services, and meeting/conference facilities. The Union is well known for its variety of programs in art and multicultural awareness.
