K-STATE MAY CLOSE TUESDAY IF ICE STORM HITS AS PREDICTED
MANHATTAN -- With the weather forecast predicting a major ice storm, Kansas State University administrators say they will decide by 5:30 a.m. if the university will close on Tuesday of finals week.
Tom Rawson, vice president for administration and finance, said, "If the university is forced to close due to weather conditions, the announcement will be made to local radio stations, Manhattan Cox cable television stations (Ch. 8 and 21) and will be online at the K-State Web site."
Rawson said the decision to stay open may be different for the Manhattan and Salina campuses, depending on weather conditions in each city.
"Our facilities crews will be working through the night to clear campus roads and sidewalks. Our primary consideration is the safety of our students, faculty and staff. If conditions are dangerous on the roads, we may need to close the Manhattan and/or Salina campuses."
If the university closes, arrangements will be made for students with finals scheduled for Tuesday to take those tests on an alternative date, said K-State Provost M. Duane Nellis. Details will be announced at the same time as the closing information.
