GALA RAISES NEARLY $5,000 FOR K-STATE CANCER RESEARCH
MANHATTAN -- Performers expressed themselves through song and earned a standing ovation at the "Winter Expressions" musical gala to benefit Kansas State University's Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research.
The Nov. 29 gala's producer, Katharina Janik Bossmann, and other musicians and technicians put on a variety show complete with opera, comedy, piano and bassoon duets -- and even glassblowing -- raising nearly $5,000 for K-State cancer research.
A party as much as a show, the gala offered its 200 guests plenty of opportunity to socialize over elegant desserts, champagne and candlelight.
"The performers were fantastic, the mood was festive, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to spend an evening supporting K-State faculty and students in their quest to conquer cancer," said Rob Denell, cancer center director. "We're grateful to Katharina and the other performers and supporters for sharing their talents and resources."
"I hope to do this again," said Janik Bossmann. "People have been overwhelmingly positive about our gala, and I am so thrilled they enjoyed it and spent their evening with us in support of the cancer center."
The mission of the center is to fund basic cancer research and support higher education, training and public outreach. All programs are made possible through private donations. More information about the center is available online at http://www.k-state.edu/cancer.center
