MANHATTAN-AREA PHILANTHROPIST TO RECEIVE K-STATE MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University is awarding its highest honor, the Medal of Excellence, to Lee Borck, Manhattan, a longtime university supporter.
Borck, who with his wife, Kathy, has given time and money to many K-State academic and athletic endeavors, will receive the medal at the K-State Graduate School commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in Bramlage Coliseum.
"We are conferring the Medal of Excellence on Lee Borck in recognition of his accomplishments in agribusiness and industry, his community spirit, and his support of his alma mater, Kansas State University," said Jon Wefald, K-State president.
Borck graduated in 1970 with a degree in agricultural economics. Since then he has found success in his many businesses, from cattle feeding and farming to real estate and banking.
The Borcks have contributed to numerous excellence funds and scholarships at K-State, among them the Tami D. Borck Memorial Scholarship and the Borck Leadership Scholarship. They also have supported civic projects in Manhattan and Larned.
Lee Borck has filled leadership roles at the Kansas State University Foundation, the College of Agriculture, the K-State Alumni Association and intercollegiate athletics. He also serves on the dean's advisory council for the College of Veterinary Medicine.
His contributions have been recognized by the College of Agriculture, which named him an alumni fellow of the college and granted him a distinguished agricultural economics alumni award. In 2003 the Huck Boyd Institute for Rural Development named Borck its leader of the year.
