K-STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION RECOGNIZES SIX DECEMBER GRADUATES

MANHATTAN -- The College of Education at Kansas State University has recognized six of its new graduates with special awards. The students and their awards include:

Lucus Dalinghaus, December 2007 bachelor's graduate in secondary education, Baileyville, received an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. At K-State he was president of the Business Education Club and was education council representative for Pi Omega Pi, the national business education teacher honor society. Dalinghaus was the recipient of a Blue Key Scholarship, a Faulkner Educational Scholarship and a K-State Leadership Scholarship. He also has received semester academic honors from K-State and has been named a Kansas State Department of Education Teacher of Promise. He is the son of Martha and Joseph Dalinghaus, Baileyville.

Amanda Graham, December 2007 bachelor's graduate in secondary education, Leon, has received the college's Outstanding Future Secondary Education Teacher Award. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary. Graham received the Peal Kennedy Memorial Scholarship. She is the daughter of Susan and Thomas Graham, Leon.

Joanna Testa, December 2007 bachelor's graduate in elementary education, Olathe, received an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. Testa belonged to the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary and the National Education Association student program. Organizations for which she volunteered included Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan and Peer Coordinators. She also has received semester academic honors from K-State. Testa is the daughter of Carol and Joseph Testa, Olathe.

Emma Manning, December 2007 bachelor's graduate in elementary education, Sedgwick, received an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. Manning belonged to the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary and served as a College of Education student ambassador. She was a volunteer for the college's open house activities. She also has served with K-State's Student Governing Association on the diversity programming committee and on the student review board as an associate justice. Manning was an honorary national junior president for the American Legion Junior Auxiliary. She is the daughter of Denise Brentzel, Churchton, Md., and Dave Manning, Sedgwick.

Cory Strathman, December 2007 bachelor's graduate in elementary education, Seneca, received the Outstanding Future Elementary Education Teacher Award. He has worked as a supervisor of the Manhattan children's basketball league. He is the son of Julie and Leroy Strathman, Seneca.

Dana Thompson, December 2007 magna cum laude bachelor's graduate in elementary education, Valley Center, received an Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. A member of Phi Kappa Phi, Thompson also was president of the Kappa Delta Pi education honorary. She belonged to the National Education Association student program and the Pre-Law Club. She served on the K-State Union Program Council and volunteered with the America Reads and America Counts programs. Her scholarships include the Kelce, the Medallion and the Elvon G. and Lydia E. Skeen Education Fund scholarships. She was house historian for her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. Thompson is the daughter of Karen Thompson, Kechi, and Michael Thompson, Valley Center.
