K-STATE'S
MORTAR BOARD HONORS FACULTY, AWARDS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University's chapter of Mortar Board National
College Senior Honor Society recently honored several faculty, advisers
and mentors, as well as selected students in their third year of
study.
The
recipients of Mortar Boards scholarships for third-year students,
the Linda Henry and Sam Kruckenberg Outstanding Junior scholarships,
include: Amanda Brookover, junior in regional and community planning,
Garden City, $100 book scholarship; Danielle English,
senior in public relations, Overland Park, $100 book scholarship;
and Joe Vossen, senior in political science, Tecumseh, $500.
From
out-of-state: Jessica Stone, junior in education-social studies,
Bakersfield, Calif., $500; and Amber Tyler, junior in agriculture
economics, Omaha, Neb., $500.
Outstanding
faculty from each college and the student life department were chosen
by current Mortar Board members on the basis of commitment to students
and demonstration of the honor society's ideals of scholarship,
leadership and service. The honorees include:
Sue
Atchison, instructor of art; William Meredith, director of the School
of Family Studies and Human Services; Sally Bailey, associate professor
of theater; Ronnie Elmore, associate dean of the College of Veterinary
Medicine; Barry Flinchbaugh, professor emeritus of agricultural
economics; David Fritchen, professor and head of the department
of architectural engineering and construction science; Derek Jackson,
assistant director, housing and dining services; Wendy Ornelas,
associate dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design;
Robert Pettay, instructor of kinesiology and academic adviser; Sabine
Turnley, instructor of management; and Mindy Weixelman, director
of development for student life at the Kansas State University Foundation.
