K-STATE TO BE CLOSED TUESDAY, JAN. 2, FOR NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 2, in
compliance with an executive order by Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
The executive order notes that state offices in Kansas were closed to
mourn the death of other presidents, including Presidents Kennedy,
Eisenhower, Truman, Johnson and Reagan.
In accordance with Kansas Board of Regents policies, K-State offices
will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 2, as a legal holiday in observance of
the National Day of Mourning for former President Gerald Ford. The
university will reopen Wednesday, Jan. 3.
Gary Leitnaker, assistant vice president, Division of Human Resources,
said, "Due to the short notice of this holiday, we encourage you to
contact those employees who are not currently in the office to let them
know of this change."
Those benefits eligible employees who may be required to work on the
holiday will receive holiday compensation for working on the holiday,
if applicable. Benefits eligible employees who previously scheduled
leave for Tuesday, Jan. 2, will have leave replaced with holiday credit
instead, Leitnaker said.
