COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION RECOGNIZES TWO FACULTY MEMBERS
WITH AWARDS FOR TEACHING, RESEARCH
MANHATTAN
-- Contributions to teaching and research have garnered honors for
two faculty members at Kansas State University's College of Business
Administration.
Dann
Fisher, associate professor of accounting and Deloitte and Touche
Faculty Fellow, has earned the Kansas State Bank Teaching Excellence
Award. Chwen Sheu, professor of management and Paul Edgerley Chair
in Business Administration, has earned the College of Business Administration
Outstanding Contribution in Research Award. Fisher and Sheu will
be recognized at the college's commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec.
9.
"I
am pleased that Dr. Fisher has been recognized for his talent as
a teacher and his commitment to his students and to their success,"
said Yar Ebadi, dean of the College of Business Administration.
"We are fortunate to have faculty members who consistently
demonstrate this level of concern for the growth and development
of our students both inside and outside of the classroom.
"Solid
research is essential to a vibrant culture of learning," Ebadi
said. "Dr. Sheu has been a top College of Business Administration
scholar throughout his career at K-State. He has set a standard
for research activity that is respected by his peers and admired
by his students. He is a most deserving recipient of this award."
Fisher
is an expert on tax procedures and filing practices. Computerized
tax filing, taking out loans against your tax refund from the bank,
tax evasion and how moral reasoning affects a person's likeliness
to file taxes are just some of the areas he has researched. He is
nationally known for his research on ethics and accounting. He has
had articles published in a number of journals, including Research
on Accounting Ethics, Behavioral Research in Accounting and the
Journal of Business Ethics. He received the College of Business
Administration Outstanding Research Award in 1998. Fisher earned
his master's and bachelor's degrees from K-State, and his doctorate
from the University of Missouri.
Sheu's
areas of research include green supply chain in high-tech industry,
global manufacturing practices, manufacturing flexibility and environment,
retailer supplier relationships and the effect of supply chain investment.
Sheu has been invited to make more than 70 presentations to companies
in the United States, Taiwan, Malaysia and China, including Hong
Kong. He has been published in numerous refereed journals, has been
the associate editor for the International Journal of Internet and
Enterprise Management, and has received many professional awards,
including teaching and best paper awards. He also is the president-elect
of the Global Manufacturing Research Group. Sheu earned his doctorate
from Ohio State University, his master's from Iowa State University
and his bachelor's degree from National Chung-Hsing University in
Taipei, Taiwan.
