FIRST FEMALE GRADUATES THROUGH AVIATION DEGREE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY AND K-STATE AT SALINA: Chrystal Cole-Bridges has become the first woman to follow in the footsteps of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, a feat she wouldn't have been able to accomplish had it not been for a partnership between Kansas State University at Salina and Tuskegee University.

K-STATE STUDENT WINS AWARDS AT RESEARCH CONFERENCE: Erica Cain, a senior in microbiology, Wamego, was honored for her research on baculoviruses and the factors that enable them to spread beyond the midgut of the insects they infect.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION HONORS THREE K-STATE PROFESSORS: Three Kansas State University professors recently were recognized by the Soil Science Society of America at the 2006 annual meeting in Indianapolis, Ind.

VIRGINIA MOXLEY SELECTED AS K-STATE'S DEAN OF HUMAN ECOLOGY: Following an extensive national search, Virginia Moxley, of Council Grove, has been named dean of Kansas State University's College of Human Ecology. Moxley had been interim dean since January 2006. Previously she had been senior associate dean for scholarship and research in the college.

K-STATE BUSINESS DEAN LENDING ACCREDITATION EXPERTISE TO SAUDI ARABIAN UNIVERSITY, BUILDING FOUNDATION FOR ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIP: Yar M. Ebadi, dean of Kansas State University's College of Business Administration, is helping the university strengthen its ties to Saudi Arabia and possibly paving the way for more Saudi students to come to K-State.

K-STATE DISTANCE EDUCATION ENROLLMENT CURRENTLY UNDER WAY FOR SPRING 2007 SEMESTER: Kansas State University is offering adults even more opportunities to pursue their educational goals through a growing number of distance education courses.

MORE THAN 1,350 K-STATE STUDENTS CANDIDATES FOR GRADUATION THIS FALL: More than 1,350 students are candidates for degrees this fall from Kansas State University. Commencement ceremonies were Dec. 8 and 9 in Manhattan and Salina.

LEADERSHIP ABILITIES DEFINE K-STATE'S ABDUL YAHAYA'S SELECTION AS COMMERCE BANK STUDENT HONOREE FOR ENHANCING MULTICULTURALISM: When it comes to describing Kansas State University's AbdulRasak Toyin Yahaya, the word "leader" is one some say fits him best.

K-STATE PROFESSOR CHOSEN AS PRESIDENT-ELECT OF NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL: Kassim Al-Khatib, professor of agronomy at Kansas State University, has been elected as the next president of the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology. His one-year term as president of the council will begin in October 2007.

K-STATE RECEIVES MAJOR NEW GRANT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE EFFORT: The department of agronomy at Kansas State University has received a one-year grant of $1 million from the Robertson Foundation, New York, for outreach and research efforts into the role of agricultural soils in reducing global warming.

K-STATE-BASED NATIONAL ACADEMIC ADVISING ASSOCIATION AND THE NCAA PARTNER TO SUPPORT STUDENT-ATHLETES: The National Academic Advising Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association have established a partnership to further student-athlete development and academic success.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION RECOGNIZES SEVEN GRADUATES WITH AWARDS: The College of Education at Kansas State University presented awards to seven graduating seniors.

K-STATE AT SALINA'S STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE TEAM TAKES THIRD PLACE IN REGIONAL CASE STUDY COMPETITION: Kansas State University at Salina's chapter of Students in Free Enterprise kicked off its third year by beating out more than a dozen other schools for third place in the recent Walgreen's Wrangle I competition at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark.

K-STATE STUDENT WINS YEARLONG INTERNSHIP WITH INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS IN LONDON: Kansas State University's Hillary Glasgow, a December 2006 bachelor's graduate in anthropology, has been selected as a 2007-2008 Mountbatten Intern. The Mountbatten Internship Programme places college graduates in a yearlong internship with an international business in London.

TWO K-STATE STUDENTS RECEIVE SPONSORSHIP TO FUTURE AGRICULTURE LEADERS CONFERENCE: Two Kansas State University students received sponsorships to a conference by a professional development organization for top students pursuing careers in the agricultural industry.

NEW ONLINE MASTER'S PROGRAM IN COMMUNITY PLANNING AT K-STATE APPROVED: Faculty from K-State have partnered with other universities, through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance, to develop the interdisciplinary, interinstitutional degree program. The program is designed to accelerate the work of those who are building rural community capacity for a sustainable future.

K-STATE STUDENTS COMPETE IN ANNUAL COMPUTER PROGRAMMING CONTEST: Fourteen Kansas State University students competed in the regional round of the 31st annual Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest, sponsored by IBM.

K-STATE ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS INITIATE INAUGURAL STUDENT CONFERENCE: The first-ever National Architectural Engineering Institute Student Conference will be led in both planning and host duties by the president and the national liaison of Kansas State University's Architectural Engineering Institute's student chapter.

TOPEKA-BASED CD TRADEPOST PLANS TO USE RESEARCH DONE BY K-STATE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION STUDENTS IN KEY MARKETING DECISIONS: When a group of marketing students from Kansas State University's College of Business Administration approached the president of CD Tradepost about doing a semester-long marketing research project on the company, he jumped at the opportunity.

K-STATE SIGNS 2 + 2 AGREEMENT WITH JOHNSON COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Kansas State University and Johnson County Community College have signed a 2 + 2 agreement for a bachelor's degree in food science and industry.

K-STATE'S THETA XI FRATERNITY RECEIVES SPECIAL NATIONAL RECOGNITION: The Alpha Iota chapter of Theta Xi fraternity at Kansas State University has been recognized as an "All True Men" chapter.

K-STATE AWARDS STUDENTS $9 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS: More than 5,200 Kansas State University students are academic scholarship recipients for the 2006-2007 school year. The scholarships total $9 million.

RESEARCH BY K-STATE ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS LEADS TO URBAN DESIGN INTERVENTIONS TO INCREASE WALKING, BIKING OPPORTUNITIES: A group of fifth-year architecture students from K-State's College of Architecture, Planning and Design have used their emerging knowledge to offer urban design interventions that can be used in the downtown Manhattan redevelopment project, as well as redevelopment efforts in other Kansas towns.

K-STATE FOOD SAFETY EXPERT SAYS MORE CAN BE DONE TO ENSURE SAFETY OF PRODUCE: A food safety expert at Kansas State University says the produce industry must do more to ensure that everyone from farm-to-fork recognizes food safety risks and that concrete actions are taken to reduce the risks of dangerous microorganisms.

NEW STUDENT DIRECTORS FOR K-STATE'S WILDCAT WARM-UP PROGRAM: Kansas State University has new student directors for Wildcat Warm-up, a special program designed to improve student retention.

K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION RECOGNIZES TWO FACULTY MEMBERS WITH AWARDS FOR TEACHING, RESEARCH: Dann Fisher, associate professor of accounting and Deloitte and Touche Faculty Fellow, has earned the Kansas State Bank Teaching Excellence Award. Chwen Sheu, professor of management and Paul Edgerley Chair in Business Administration, has earned the College of Business Administration Outstanding Contribution in Research Award.

K-STATE GRAD STUDENT RESEARCHING FUNCTION OF BRACHIAL PLEXUS IN T-REX: John Myers, a graduate student in geology, is studying a Tyrannosaurid, possibly a species of Tyrannosaurus rex. Myers' research relates to the functionality of the species' forearms by comparing its anatomy to that of its modern relatives, such as lizards and birds.

K-STATE STUDENTS JOIN FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY: Kansas State University's Alpha Chi chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron recently initiated 11 new members.

K-STATE CROPS TEAM PLACES SECOND AT TWO NATIONAL CONTESTS: The Kansas State University Collegiate Crops Team placed second at the Chicago Collegiate Crops Contest and at the Kansas City Board of Trade Collegiate Crops Contest and Nov. 18 and 21, respectively.

K-STATE DIVISION OF CONTINUING EDUCATION TO CELEBRATE COMMENCEMENT AND 40TH ANNIVERSARY: Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education will have a reception at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, to celebrate the commencement of the fall 2006 graduating class of distance education students. The reception, in the Flint Hills Room at the K-State Student Union, also will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the university's Division of Continuing Education.

ASSOCIATE DEAN OF K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN HONORED FOR SERVICE TO KANSAS ARCHITECTURE ORGANIZATION: Wendy Ornelas, associate dean of Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design, has been honored for her service to a professional group for Kansas architects.

LONGTIME DIRECTOR OF K-STATE'S EDUCATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS CENTER, MEL CHASTAIN, TO RETIRE: Mel Chastain, director of the Kansas Regents Educational Communications Center at Kansas State University, will retire Jan. 3, 2007.

K-STATE CHEMICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS EARN HONORS AT AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERS COMPETITION: It was an award-winning time for Kansas State University chemical engineering students at the annual meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Nov. 12-17, in San Francisco.

K-STATE'S LAFENE HEALTH CENTER RECEIVES ADDITIONAL FLU VACCINE: Lafene Health Center at Kansas State University has received an additional supply of flu vaccine. The vaccine will be available to spouses and adult children of faculty, staff and students.
