K-STATE'S
BEACH MUSEUM OF ART TO BE CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS AND TO PREPARE FOR
NEXT EXHIBITION
MANHATTAN
-- The galleries at Kansas State University's Marianna Kistler Beach
Museum of Art will be closed Thursday, Dec. 21, through Monday,
Jan. 15, 2007, for the holidays and to set up the museum's next
exhibition.
The
museum will resume its regular hours Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, with
the opening of "A Decade and a Year: Annual Acquisitions by
the Friends of the Beach Museum of Art." The exhibition recognizes
the significant contribution the Friends of the Beach Museum of
Art has made to the development of the museum's permanent collection
in the last 11 years. The organization selects the acquisitions
at its annual spring reception.
"For
more than a decade, the Friends of the Beach Museum of Art has been
responsible for the acquisition of many of the most significant
works in the collection," said Bill North, the museum's senior
curator. "Since the museum's opening, more than 70 percent
of the works purchased for the museum's permanent collection have
been acquired with Friends of the Beach Museum of Art funds."
Featured
in the exhibition are works by John Steuart Curry, Nicholas Kripal,
Herschel Logan, Doug Martin, Frank Olin Marvin, Gordon Moore, Larry
Schwarm, Alan Shields, Robert Stackhouse, Judith Streeter and Robert
Sudlow.
The
exhibition will be in the museum's Helm Gallery and will be on display
until Monday, May 21, 2007.
The
museum, on the southeast corner of the K-State campus at 14th Street
and Anderson Avenue, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through
Fridays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free, and
complimentary visitor parking is available adjacent to the facility.
