K-STATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION RECOGNIZES SEVEN GRADUATES WITH AWARDS

MANHATTAN -- The College of Education at Kansas State University presented awards to seven graduating seniors. Students receiving the special honors include:

Sharon Wilson, December 2006 cum laude graduate in elementary education, Abilene, received the College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. At K-State, Wilson was president of the College of Education Student Council and a member of Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Council for Exceptional Children and the Kansas National Education Association. Wilson also participated in Pack the Library for Future Education, the All-University Open House Committee and several off-campus activities. She received the Charles Wilson Scholarship, the Anderson Scholarship and America's Outstanding Collegiate Women Award. She also received semester academic honors from the college. Wilson is a 2002 Chapman High School graduate. She is the daughter of Ray and Kathy Hoffman, Abilene, and is married to Lucas Wilson, Abilene.

Amanda York, December 2006 magna cum laude graduate in secondary education, Garden City, received a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. She also served as the College of Education's student commencement speaker. At K-State, York was a member of Mortar Board Honor Society, Chimes Junior Honor Society, Silver Key Honor Society, Rotaract, K-State choirs and a McCain Auditorium ambassador. She also was an International Team member, a conversational English partner at the International Student Center, a "Sweet Charity" cast member, Spanish Via Satellite student assistant at the Regents Educational Communications Center and an academic tutor at the Leasure Hall Tutoring Center. She received a K-State Foundation Scholarship, Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Scholarship, Blue Key scholarship for study abroad and a department of modern languages scholarship. She also has received semester academic honors from the college. York, a 2002 Garden City High School graduate, is the daughter of Robert and Rosemary York, Garden City.

Lindsey DeNoon, December 2006 summa cum laude graduate in elementary education, Manhattan, received a College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. At K-State, DeNoon was a member of Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Kansas National Education Association.

DeNoon is the recipient of the 2007 Kansas Teacher of the Year-Teacher of Promise Award, College of Education Alumni Scholarship, Laura and Lavina Beichley Memorial Scholarship, Karen Broddle Memorial College of Education Scholarship, Boeing College of Education Scholarship and Mary E. Mills Education Scholarship. She also has received semester academic honors from the college. DeNoon is a 2002 Manhattan High School graduate and is the daughter of Diane DeNoon, Manhattan.

Jenna Beahm, December 2006 graduate in secondary education, Overland Park, received the College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. At K-State, Beahm was a member of Chi Omega sorority, the Freshman Mentor Program, Kansas National Education Association, Education Council and the Union Programming Council. She received the K-State Leadership Scholarship, was a Delta Chi Sorority Woman of the Year nominee and received semester academic honors from the college. Beahm also was involved in off-campus activities and volunteer projects. She is a 2003 graduate of Blue Valley Northwest High School and the daughter of Cliff and Connie Beahm, Overland Park.

Rhiannon Becker, December 2006 graduate in secondary education, Plainville, received the Outstanding Future Teacher Award. At K-State, she was active at St. Isidore Campus Center, participated in intramural athletics and did volunteer work off-campus. She also received the Presidential Scholarship. Becker is a 2002 Plainville High School graduate and the daughter of Kenneth and Vicki Becker, Plainville.

Morgan LoVullo, December 2006 magna cum laude graduate in elementary education, Salina, received the Outstanding Future Teacher Award. At K-State, LoVullo was a member of the Kansas National Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honor Society and Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society. She received the College of Education Alumni Scholarship and the Dr. John W. and Nadine Demand Scholarship and earned semester academic honors from the college. LoVullo also participated in various conferences and symposia in addition to volunteer work in the Manhattan area. She is a 2002 Salina High School Central graduate and is the daughter of James and Marcia LoVullo, Salina.

Kelli Pitman, December 2006 magna cum laude graduate in secondary education, Topeka, received the College of Education Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. At K-State, Pitman was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Mortar Board, vice president of the Student Journalism Education Association and a LIFE group leader for Christian Challenge. She is a Bosco Leadership Scholar and received the Kappa Kappa Gamma Loyalty Pin. Pitman is a 2002 Washburn Rural High School graduate and is the daughter of Larry and Connie Pitman, Topeka.
