Patent issued for research that alleviates pain in cattle suffering from lameness and following castration, dehorning
Researchers found that combinations of meloxicam and gabapentin improved the welfare of cattle by reducing the severity of lameness. Meloxicam alone improved weight gain after dehorning and reduce the incidence of bovine respiratory disease after castration.

Johannes receives Stowe Award for adolescent health plan work
Elaine Johannes, recipient of the 2014 Dean Barbara S. Stowe Faculty Development Award from the College of Human Ecology, will use the grant to work with the Kansas Adolescent Health State Plan.
