University, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley to renew partnership; interview opportunities available at signing event

Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University and the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley will renew a partnership in an on-campus ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Media are invited to attend.

Kirk Schulz, Kansas State University president, and Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, will sign the partnership resolution at 4 p.m. in the Hagans Library on the second floor of the K-State Alumni Center. Following the signing -- at approximately 4:45 p.m. -- Schulz and Funk will be available for interviews.

About 20 leaders from each institution will represent Kansas State University and the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley at the ceremony. The event marks the fourth partnership renewal since 2008. The partnership is the first and only military-to-university community partnership.

A social event will follow the signing from 5 to 6 p.m. Other participants will be available for interviews at this time.

Media are asked to RSVP to media@k-state.edu by noon Tuesday, August 27.

A copy of the resolution is available in advance by contacting Art DeGroat, director of military affairs at Kansas State University and lead agent for the program, at 785-532-0369 or degroata@k-state.edu.

More information about the partnership:

A formal institutional partnership between Kansas State University and the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley was first established by Jon Wefald, former president of Kansas State University, and Maj. Gen. Robert E. Durbin, former 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, in April 2008. The agreement was designed to serve as a model military- to-university community partnership.
