MANHATTAN BREWERY OWNER MAKING PRESENTATION AT K-STATE'S HALE LIBRARY

MANHATTAN -- The last commercial brewery in Manhattan closed in 1877, but 130 years later Tallgrass Brewing Company opened.

Jeff Gill, the founder of Tallgrass Brewing Company, will give a presentation on his company at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, in the Hemisphere Room at Kansas State University's Hale Library. Gill's lecture will include a behind-the-scenes look at the brewery, as well as an overview of the brewing process. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The lecture coincides with Hale Library's Morse department of special collection's current exhibition, "Happy Hour!: Top Shelf Selections from Special Collections," on display weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sept. 10 in the library's fifth-floor gallery. The exhibition is free.

Tallgrass Brewing Company is east of Manhattan on U.S. Highway 24. Two beers are currently in production and available in bars throughout Kansas: Tallgrass Ale and Tallgrass Wheat. Gill recently upgraded the brewery to include a bottling line, and bottled versions of each beer are now appearing in retail liquor stores.
