RAWSON TO BEGIN PHASED RETIREMENT FROM K-STATE; SHUBERT SELECTED AS SUCCESSOR

MANHATTAN -- Thomas M. Rawson, Kansas State University's vice president for administration and finance, has announced his intent to step down from his post effective at the end of the calendar year.

"I received the news of Tom Rawson's retirement with great regret, but equal understanding," said K-State President Jon Wefald. "Tom has done a brilliant job for K-State."

Bruce Shubert will succeed Rawson as vice president for administration and finance beginning Jan. 1, Rawson said.

"Bruce has been an outstanding associate vice president in our office since 2003," Rawson said. "I am confident he will do a terrific job in his new position."

Shubert came to K-State after 21 years at Fort Hays State University, where he held increasingly responsible positions, including vice president for administration and finance. He earned both his bachelor's and his MBA from Fort Hays State University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He is a Certified Public Accountant and also has experience in systems analysis, programming and other IT functions.

At K-State, he has served on faculty senate and its Strategic Planning Committee; and FSCOUP - Faculty Senate Committee on University Planning. He also has worked on the faculty salary committee and Student Senate's tuition committee.

Rawson will continue at K-State as senior adviser to the vice president of administration and finance on a four-tenths time basis under a phased retirement plan. He will be working on special projects such as providing administrative leadership to campus emergency response planning and leadership to the deferred maintenance and capital improvement planning processes.

For more than 30 years, Tom Rawson has worked in higher education administration. As vice president for administration and finance at Kansas State University, he supervises all financial operations, facilities planning and maintenance, information systems, university police, human resources and environmental health and safety.

Before coming to K-State, Rawson served as the chief fiscal officer for the Lawrence campus of the University of Kansas for three years, and prior to that he spent more than 12 years working for the Kansas Board of Regents. Rawson received his bachelor's degree in science education and master's degrees in mathematics education and computer science, all from K-State. He completed his education at the University of New Mexico, receiving his doctorate in educational administration in 1975. He and his wife, Dianne, plan to spend more time with their children and grandchildren and travel.
