K-STATE'S MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO FEATURE NARRATIVES FROM THE WORLD'S GREATEST EXPLORERS
MANHATTAN -- Neal Conan, host of National Public Radio's "Talk of the Nation'" teams up with Ensemble Galilei and National Geographic to perform "First Person: Stories from the Edge of the World" at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.
The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12.
The collaboration features larger than life on-stage projections of spectacular images paired with Conan's narration of journal excerpts from some of the world's greatest explorers. The show is set to the evocative music of Ensemble Galilei, a group of musicians from classical and Celtic backgrounds.
The narratives are all about exploration, discovery and mankind's hunger to know more about the world. Conan will read first-person accounts from great adventurers such as Jacques Cousteau and Charles Darwin. Each story will be enhanced by artwork, maps and photographs chosen from the National Geographic Image Collection, which is one of the most comprehensive collections in the world, holding more than 10 million historical pieces.
In connection with the performance, K-State's Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art will have an exhibition of some of the National Geographic Society photographs used in the performance. The exhibition will be available Sept. 12-Dec. 7.
Admission to the museum is free. More information about the exhibition is available by calling 785-532-7718 or dropping by the museum on the southeast corner of the K-State campus at 14th Street and Anderson Avenue. Free visitor parking is available next to the building. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
All Friends of McCain and Friends of the Beach Museum of Art are invited to an exclusive reception to preview the photographs at the Beach Museum prior to the Sept. 12 McCain performance.
