BIOFUELS SYMPOSIUM SEPT. 16 AT K-STATE

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's first Sustainability of Biofuels Symposium will be Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the K-State Alumni Center.

The symposium will cover the sustainability of biofuels production and processing in the Central Plains. The target audience includes university faculty and staff, state and federal agency personnel, farm groups and industry representatives from Kansas and neighboring states.

Sessions will summarize existing technical information, ongoing research and technological challenges for the future regarding the sustainability of biofuels. Concurrent panel presentations and discussions will cover issues surrounding livestock, grain and cellulosic ethanol production as well as "food vs. feed vs. fuel."

The symposium is sponsored by the Kansas Center for Agricultural Resources and the Environment, K-State Research and Extension and the K-State Center for Sustainable Energy.

The registration fee is $40 and the deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 8. A pre-symposium poster paper session will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15. Proposals on topics related to the program purpose are being accepted until Monday, Sept. 1. Poster submissions and symposium registration are available at http://www.dce.k-state.edu/conf/bioenergy
