K-STATE BRYANT MEMORIAL LECTURE TO LOOK AT WORK OF K.C. FIRM
MANHATTAN — The first Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design lecture of the school year will be a Lee A. Bryant Memorial Lecture on Art and Architecture by Roger A. Reed of A. Zahner Company, a Kansas City architectural metal firm.
Reed's slide illustrated lecture, " The Architect's Metal Palette: Not So Heavy," will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in the K-State Student Union's Little Theatre. The lecture is free and the public is invited.
For more than 100 years, A. Zahner Company has pioneered advances in the architectural metal industry. Zahner's work is now found in and around structures in Europe, Asia and North and South America. Headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., the company has U.S. production facilities in Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
Reed, a K-State graduate in human ecology, has worked with A. Zahner Company for the last eight years. His position as architectural liaison for the company has given him the opportunity to work with some of the world's most prominent architects, including Herzog & de Meuron, Gehry Partners, Tadeo Ando, Morphosis, Marlon Blackwell, Zaha Hadid, Antoine Predock, Michael Maltzan, James Carpenter, Eric Owen Moss, Kieran Timberlake and Diller Scofidio.
His presentation at K-State will cover the a series of topics dealing with the architect's palette and incorporating digital definition technology in the fabrication of some of the most high profile architectural projects being completed today. Zahner's approach, while involving some of the most sophisticated fabrication techniques and practices in construction today, also incorporates an old fashioned concept: listening to the architect and reaching a level of mutual understanding of not only their design but also the owner's desires and how they dovetail with what it is that A. Zahner Company does.
Continuing education credit is available for design professionals attending the lecture by contacting Diane Potts at 785-532-1090.
The Lee A. Bryant Memorial Lectures on Art and Architecture honor 1970 K-State architecture alumnus Lee Bryant who died of a stroke in 1981 at the age of 40. The lecture series is a tribute to Bryant's passion for art and for sharing with future generations of students his concern for the vital interaction of art and architecture.
