K-STATE'S MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES OPENS WITH CHICAGO CITY LIMITS

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's McCain Performance Series will start off the year with the improvisational comedy of Chicago City Limits at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in McCain Auditorium.

Chicago City Limits is New York's longest-running comedy revue and has been entertaining audiences for more than 25 years. The show is critically acclaimed and features an award-winning national touring company and top-notch theater training program. The group has performed at Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian Institution, Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, the 1995 Super Bowl and at colleges and regional theaters in North America and in Europe.

Individual tickets cost $15 to $30 and may be ordered by calling the McCain box office at 785-532-6428 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Tickets also may be purchased online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain

Chicago City Limits was founded in Chicago by George Todisco and actors participating in the workshop program at The Second City. The group relocated to New York City in 1979 and began performing regularly at some of New York's premiere comedy venues including Catch a Rising Star, The Improv and The Comic Strip. The ensemble established its own theater in summer 1980 and began a continuous run now numbering at more than 8,500 off-Broadway performances. The group appears nightly in its own theater at The Improv in New York City.

Members of the company also will conduct two workshops, called "Comedy in the Workplace," for the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and the K-State College of Business Administration. The hands-on, interactive workshops are designed to entertain and enlighten. The programs introduce participants to the skills and techniques improvisational actors use to maximize their creativity and spontaneity on stage.
