K-STATE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN STUDENTS EARN HONORS IN STUDENT RENDERING COMPETITION

MANHATTAN -- Several students from Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design earned honors in the college's 15th annual Student Rendering Competition.

Entries in the competition are on display in Seaton Hall's Chang Gallery from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Friday, May 2. The gallery is free and open to the public.

The competition was open to all graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design, including students enrolled in the college's academic programs in Kansas City, Mo.

According to organizer Fayez Husseini, professor of interior architecture and product design, the competition had three objectives: to promote interaction and constructive competition between students in the college regardless of major or level; to expose faculty and students to top-quality student work, to discover hidden talent and to encourage students with special skills to market and express their talent; and to gain intellectual, emotional and monetary recognition from faculty, staff and students.

The competition jury included Lynda Andrus, K-State professor of art; Chris Ford, professor in the College of Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; John Gaunt, dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Kansas; and Ted Knapp, principal of TK Architects in Kansas City, Mo., and a K-State architecture alum.

Awards of $100 for first place, $75 for second, $50 for third and $30 for honorable mention were presented. The prizes were sponsored by Knapp and the dean's office of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design.
