K-STATE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN STUDENTS EARN HONORS FOR PHOTOGRAPHY WORK
MANHATTAN -- Fifteen entries have earned honors in the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design's second annual student photography competition.
The competition was open to all graduate and undergraduate students in the college, according to Fayez Husseini, competition organizer and a professor of interior architecture and product design. The competition jury included Bill Adams, K-State professor of journalism and mass communications; Jim Rigg, art and design director at K-State's Educational Communications Center; and Tom Tyler, principal of Answers Inc., St. Louis, Mo., and 1974 K-State bachelor of architecture alum.
Competition prizes were sponsored by the dean's office of the College of Architecture, Planning and Design. Prizes included $100 for best in show, $75 for first place; $50 for second place; and $25 for third place. This year's event had 92 entries.
Entries from the competition are on display through Friday, April 11, in the Chang Gallery of Seaton Hall. The gallery, which is free and open to the public, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
Students earning honors and their photography category include:
Ashley Johnson, graduate student in architecture, Lawrence, second place in both black-and-white photography and in interiors and architectural details; Lauren Sanderson, third-year student in architecture, Leavenworth, first place in exterior architecture; Alexandr Usherenko, fifth-year student in architecture, Manhattan, first place in interiors and architectural details; Andrew Barnes, third-year student in architecture, Overland Park, second place in exterior architecture; and Kristin Stang, graduate student in interior architecture and product design, Wichita, best of show and first place in black-and-white photography.
From out of state:
Jamie Hayes, graduate student in architecture, Colorado Springs, Colo., third place in black-and-white photography.
From Missouri: Emily Hagy, graduate student in architecture, third place in exterior architecture, and Andrew Heimburger, graduate student in architecture, first place in landscapes and in creative and other subject matter, both of St. Louis; and Andrea Nelson, third-year student in interior architecture and product design, Smithville, third place in interiors and architectural details.
Betsy Pribula, graduate student in architecture, Wyndmere, N.D., second place in landscapes; and Forrest Smith IV, second-year student in architecture, Houston, Texas, second place in creative and other subject matter, and third place in both landscapes and in creative and other subject matter.
