MAYOR OF GREENSBURG TO VISIT K-STATE FRIDAY, APRIL 25
MANHATTAN -- John Janssen, mayor of Greensburg, will be on the Kansas State University campus Friday, April 25, to talk to members of the North American environmental history class taught by Bonnie Lynn-Sherow, associate professor of history.
Janssen will discuss the decision by residents of Greensburg, which was devastated by a tornado nearly one year ago, to do a "green" reconstruction. Public buildings and many private residences in the town are being built according to the Green Building Council's standards for Leadership in Environmental Energy Design, also known as LEED. Greensburg has opted for "platinum" level, the highest standard in sustainable and energy efficient design.
Students in Lynn-Sherow's class will be going to Greensburg Saturday, April 26, to volunteer, through Mennonite Relief, and to see firsthand the new construction in the town.
The class meets at 1:30 p.m. in 226 Eisenhower Hall. Members of the media are welcome to cover the talk, but are asked to contact Lynn-Sherow at 785-532-0778 or blynn@k-state.edu about attending. Media also are asked sit in the back of the classroom and to wait until students have finished with any questions for the mayor before asking their own.
