Human resource management team wins case competition

MANHATTAN -- When it comes to guiding a workforce, Kansas State University's student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management in the College of Business Administration has a winning touch.

A team from the chapter took first place in the society's recent case competition in Austin, Texas. The team competed against 15 universities from the Southwest. The competition focused on issues management practices, recruitment, training, development and employee labor relations.

Team members included Jody Forge, senior in management, Leavenworth; James Geary, senior in management, Overland Park; and Michelle Allison, junior in management, Wichita. The team was accompanied by faculty adviser Valerie Evans, an instructor of management at the university.

"I am proud of the way the team represented the student Society of Human Resource Management chapter, the College of Business Administration and Kansas State University," said Evans, who has been the chapter's faculty adviser since 2006. "Team members prepared, worked hard and did a great job."

The competition is in conjunction with the society's regional student conferences, at which teams of up to six undergraduate or graduate students compete and are judged for both oral and written presentations regarding teamwork.

The team received complimentary registration to the national conference of the Society of Human Resource Management, June 16-19, in Chicago, as well as reimbursement for travel expenses.
