ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN STUDENTS SKETCH TO SUCCEED

MANHATTAN -- The entries in the 2011 Ted and Sue Knapp Rendering Competition showcased the drawing skills of the students in Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design.

Students competed in four categories: freehand black and white, freehand color, computer and mixed media. The jury members who selected the winners praised the tedious skill and complexity shown in the drawings.

Winners placing first in their categories received $150. Second-place winners received $100 and juror's choice award winners received $50.

The winners include:

Kyle Schleicher, fifth-year architecture student, Merriam, first place in computer; Maria Guerrero, second-year architecture student, Olathe, juror's choice in freehand black and white; and Kristin Van Dusen, fifth-year architecture student, Wichita, first place in freehand color,.

From out of state:

Aaron Garcia, third-year architecture student, Denver, first place in freehand black and white.

From Missouri: Alex Callow, third-year architecture student, Graham, second place in computer; Darcy McDonough, third-year interior architecture and product design student, Lee's Summit, juror’s choice in freehand color; and Timothy Sandweg, fifth-year architecture student, St. Louis, juror’s choice in freehand black and white.

Conner McGowan, fifth-year architecture student, Crete, Neb., second place in freehand color; and Will Leonard, third-year architecture student, Columbia, S.C., first place in mixed media.

From out of country: Yosuke Michishita, second-year architecture student, Yokohama, Japan, second place in freehand black and white.
