K-STATE'S McCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO PRESENT 'THE SLEEPING BEAUTY'

MANHATTAN -- The Moiseev Russian Classical Ballet with orchestra will present Tchaikovsky's version of "The Sleeping Beauty" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in McCain Auditorium as part of Kansas State University's McCain Performance Series.

A dazzling story of good versus evil presented with lavish costumes, brilliant dancers and live music, "The Sleeping Beauty" is the story of the beautiful Aurora, who pricks her finger on a rose on her 16th birthday and falls asleep for 100 years until the kiss of a handsome prince awakens her.

"Tchaikovsky's tale is a family-friendly version of this classic and is an ideal opportunity to introduce ballet to someone new," said Thomas Jackson, McCain marketing director.

The Moiseev Russian Classical Ballet was created in 1999 with the help and support of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Culture. The company was founded by Vladimir Moiseev, its general director, a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater and grandson of legendary Russian ballet master Igor Moiseev, and Evgeny Amosov, its artistic director.

A pre-performance lecture will be given by Joyce Yagerline, K-State associate professor of speech communication, theater and dance, at 6:30 p.m. in 204 McCain.

Tickets can be purchased at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain/ or by calling the McCain box office at 785-532-6428 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

The event is sponsored by the Kansas Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the K-State fine arts fee and the Friends of McCain.
