STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE TEAM AT K-STATE QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL COMPETITION IN DALLAS
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Students in Free Enterprise team received second place at a recent regional competition in Dallas, qualifying the team for the Students in Free Enterprise USA National Exposition, May 6-8, also in Dallas.
The team presented yearly business projects that identified required judging criteria, including: understanding how a market based economic system operates; acquired education and skills training needed to succeed in a global economy; succeeding as an entrepreneur; developing personal financial management skills and understanding how the long-term success and prosperity of a market economy; and how businesses and individuals are dependent on ethical business practices.
Business projects included "Bartending 101," a high school diversity and entrepreneurship symposium, a regional financial case study competition, a radio ethics program and a Fair Market Trade Week and marketplace.
Competition presenters included: Nick Gay, junior in electrical engineering, Lenexa; Maya Ristic, senior in print journalism, Manhattan; Andrew McGraw, junior in management, Salina; and Kristin Cowdin, senior in social science, Wellsville.
Students in Free Enterprise is an international nonprofit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. The organization is funded by financial contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies and individuals. Working in partnership with business and higher education, the organization establishes student teams on university campuses. These teams are led by faculty advisors and they are challenged to develop community outreach projects that reach five educational topics: market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business ethics.
