K-STATE PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE TO PRESENT SPRING CONCERT
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Percussion Ensemble will present its spring semester concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, in McCain Auditorium. The concert is free.
The music will feature an exciting and eclectic array of sounds, according to David Whitman, K-State graduate student in music, Menomonie, Wis.
"The concert includes a composition for three 5-gallon buckets and another written for 'found' percussion instruments, which are simply everyday objects used for music making, such as tin cans, brake drums from automobiles and sheets of metal," Whitman said.
The event, a cooperative effort between the dance program and music department at K-State, will involve dance students performing to a composition by Neil Dunn, K-State instructor of dance.
"Anyone who has never seen a percussion concert will be in for a real treat," Whitman said. "The music is full of energy and excitement, and it is as fun to watch as it is to hear."
Students involved in K-State's Percussion Ensemble concert, including K-State dance students, are:
Blake Vignery, junior in music education, Concordia; Erin Bachman, junior in public relations, Emporia, dancer; Kelsie Yarbrough, sophomore in music education, Gardner; Brad Regier, junior in music education, Haysville; Coy Adams, junior in music education, Johnson; Collin Hosek, junior in music, and E'lise Schmidt, junior in pre-professional business administration, dancer, both of Lawrence.
