K-STATE'S GREEK COMMUNITY JOINS WITH NICKELODEON, COX COMMUNICATIONS, ARTS IN THE PARK TO BRING 'LET'S JUST PLAY' TO MANHATTAN

MANHATTAN -- The Greek community at Kansas State University, Manhattan's Arts in the Park and Cox Communications are bringing Nickelodeon's "Let's Just Play" to Manhattan-area children.

"Let's Just Play," from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 22, in Manhattan's City Park, includes field games and physical challenges for kids. The event is free and open to the public.

"Let's Just Play" also will have two 40-minute interactive stage shows which will finish off with an audience member being slimed. The shows, sponsored by Cox Communications and Nickelodeon, will give kids and adults a chance to get on stage and into the action. Show times will be at 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

In addition, kids will get the chance to meet Jimmy Neutron, the star of Nickelodeon's popular animated series, "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius."

As part of "Let's Just Play," the K-State Greek community will have several Nickelodeon-style field events available from 1:15-4:30 p.m. For kids to play the games, parents must sign a waiver; then parents and kids will be free to go from game to game. Sign-in will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Games will include over/under race; baton relay races; musical chairs; red light/green light; tug-of-war with slime, slime bucket brigade and slime football; shooting hoops; soccer goal kick; running bases; wet sponge toss; broom hockey; dizzy bat; sack races; wheelbarrow races; crab walk races; dodge ball; football run and pass; and more.

The K-State Red Cross Club will be on hand to provide first aid, if needed.

"Let's Just Play" is Nickelodeon's kid-led, pro-social initiative aimed at empowering kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices. Nickelodeon kicked off "Let's Just Play" in 2003 in an effort to get kids more physically active and encourage more positive, healthy and playful lifestyles.

"Nickelodeon's mission is to put kids first in everything we do and that means putting kids in the center of the action," said Howard Smith, vice president of recreation for Nickelodeon, the No. 1 entertainment brand for kids. "Bringing 'Let's Just Play' to Manhattan gives the entire family the opportunity to experience the fun and messiness synonymous with Nickelodeon."
