K-STATE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE'S KIND HEARTS, CARING HANDS DAY TO FEATURE PRESENTATION BY NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY DEAN
MANHATTAN -- Lowell B. Catlett, dean of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at New Mexico State University, will be the keynote speaker for the College of Veterinary Medicine's Kind Hearts, Caring Hands Day, Friday, April 27, at Kansas State University.
Catlett will speak at the all-college convocation at 11 a.m. in Mosier Hall's Frick Auditorium. The convocation is open to the public.
"Dr. Catlett's presentations are thought-provoking," said Ralph Richardson, dean of K-State's College of Veterinary Medicine. "He is widely recognized for his lectures on economic and societal factors that influence decision-making. They are captivating and have been very well received by veterinary and non-veterinary audiences throughout the country."
While growing up in Dalhart, Texas, Catlett lived on his family's farm and ranch. His leadership abilities became evident at a young age when he served as an FFA officer on the state and national levels.
Catlett earned his bachelor's in agricultural business and economics from West Texas State University, his master's in agricultural economics from New Mexico State University and his doctorate degree in economics from Iowa State University.
He began as an assistant professor at New Mexico State in 1978. He was named interim dean of the College of Agriculture and Home Economics in November 2005, and his appointment was made permanent in April 2006.
Catlett was awarded the New Mexico State's prestigious Westhafer Award for Teaching in 1990, and he holds a Regents Professorship in agriculture economics and agricultural business.
