K-STATE OPENING BIOSECURITY RESEARCH INSTITUTE APRIL 14 FOR PRESENTATIONS ABOUT BIOCONTAINMENT
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University will provide a virtual tour of its Biosecurity Research Institute at Pat Roberts Hall for people wanting to learn more about biocontainment.
The educational wing of the facility will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 14, in conjunction with K-State's All-University Open House. Through a computer presentation, visitors can learn more about Biosecurity Research Institute programs and biocontainment at the comprehensive biosafety-level 3 facility. The $54 million institute was dedicated in October 2006.
On hand to answer questions will be Jim Stack, director of the Biosecurity Research Institute; Scott Rusk, the institute's associate director of operations; Julie Johnson, biosecurity officer; and Ron Trewyn, vice provost for research and dean of K-State's Graduate School.
K-State's Biosecurity Research Institute provides scientists a safe and secure location in which to study pathogens and pests that threaten animal and plant-based agricultural systems and to develop diagnostic technologies and mitigation strategies to minimize impacts on the nation's food supply and economy.
Pat Roberts Hall is north of the K-State's College of Veterinary Medicine complex on Denison Avenue. Visitors may park in hall's parking lot and enter through the front door past the security gate.
