K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM OF ART TO DISPLAY PRINT WORKS BY MICHAEL KRUEGER

MANHATTAN -- The transcendent works of print artist Michael Krueger will be on view April 27-July 1 at Kansas State University's Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art.

The "Michael Krueger: 2007 Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Gift Print Artist" exhibition is sponsored by the Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Business Partners and will be on display in the museum's Hempler Gallery. Each year, an artist is selected to produce a limited edition print available exclusively to Friends members. The selected artist then has an exhibition at the museum.

"Krueger's work is characterized by an insistence on narrative and line," said Bill North, Beach Museum of Art senior curator. "His imagery reflects a deep interest in American history, the history of art and contemporary American culture."

Krueger joined the art department at the University of Kansas in 1995 as an associate professor. He teaches printmaking drawing and digital art.

"A deep sense of self, narrative, memory, realism, melancholy and a vein sense of tenderness are qualities that I seek to have in my work," Krueger said in the March 2007 issue of Review. "I am interested in recanting history through art and creating narrative scenes that will provoke thoughtful repose."

Krueger's work can be found in many public collections throughout the country, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University and the New York Public Library.

For more information, call the Beach Museum of Art at 785-532-7718 or drop by the museum on the southeast corner of the K-State campus at 14th Street and Anderson Avenue. Admission is free, and complimentary visitor parking is available adjacent to the facility. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays.
