OUTSTANDING K-STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE STUDENTS AND ADVISER HONORED
MANHATTAN -- The outstanding academic adviser of the year, the student of the year and students of the month were honored recently at Kansas State University's College of Agriculture Student Council annual awards assembly.
Loyd Stone, K-State professor of agronomy, was selected as the academic adviser of the year. Stone said he is honored and pleased to be chosen for the award.
"In my advising and teaching, I try to be helpful and provide assistance while encouraging the student's desire and need for responsibility," Stone said. "I take my receiving this award as an indication that a cooperative spirit is being maintained within my association with students."
The outstanding adviser of the year award recognizes excellent advisers who go beyond the basic requirements of their duties. The award is made based on evaluations completed by the advisees of the person nominated.
Justine Sterling, senior in agricultural communications and journalism, Kiowa, was selected as the student of the year, receiving the $500 Weyer Scholarship in Agriculture. Sterling is a member of Blue Key senior honorary and the College of Agriculture Ambassadors.
Zane Unrau, senior in agricultural technology management, Newton, was selected as the March student of the month. Unrau is a member on the K-State Crops Team, John Deere Dealership Management Club and the Agricultural Technology Management Club.
Jonathan Propheter, senior in agricultural technology management, St. Joseph, Mo., was selected as the April student of the month. Propheter is a member of the Agricultural Technology Management Club and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers Quarter Scale Tractor Design Team.
The students of the month are nominated by departmental clubs and judged on academics, as well as departmental, college, university and community activities. They are selected each month by a committee of students and faculty. Kansas Farm Bureau sponsored the award program and presented a $100 scholarship to each of the monthly recipients.
