K-STATE ENGINEERING TEAM WINS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: A team of five Kansas State University engineering students recently won first place in the American Concrete Institute's Concrete Construction Competition. The international competition is a weeklong activity for engineering students. After registering, project managers for each team are sent a real-life, high-profile job problem for their team to solve.
PRINCETON PROFESSOR WHO MELDS PHYSICS WITH BIOLOGY WILL PRESENT 'DARWIN MEETS NANO' AT K-STATE APRIL 23: A Princeton University physics professor who is using nanotechnology to better understand the physics behind DNA interactions and other biological processes will speak at Kansas State University. Robert H. Austin will present "Darwin Meets Nano" at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, in 102 Cardwell Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public. It is supported by an endowment from James R. Neff in honor of his parents, Everett and Florine Neff.
K-STATE THEATER PRESENTS SHAKESPEARE'S COMEDY 'MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING': Kansas State University Theater will present seven performances of the Shakespeare comedy "Much Ado About Nothing" in Nichols Theatre. Performance dates are April 19-21 and April 25-28 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and children, $13 for military and $15 for the public.
K-STATE AWARDING PROMOTIONS, TENURE TO 45 FACULTY MEMBERS: Kansas State University is awarding promotions to 44 faculty members and tenure to 23 faculty members. Of those being promoted, 22 are becoming associate professors and 22 are becoming full professors. The promotions in rank and the granting of tenure were approved by Jon Wefald, K-State president. They go into effect July 1.

STUDENTS WIN TWO UDALL SCHOLARSHIPS AND AN HONORABLE MENTION:
Two Kansas State University students are among 80 nationwide to
receive $5,000 Morris K. Udall Scholarships, a congressional scholarship
honoring the former Arizona congressman for his legacy of public
service. The scholars were selected from 434 candidates nominated
by 221 colleges and universities.

JONATHAN KING WINS PHI KAPPA PHI GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP: Jonathan
King, Manhattan, has been named a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate
Fellowship winner for 2007. This year fellowships of $5,000 were
awarded to 60 of the nation's top college seniors to support their
graduate study. King plans to use his fellowship to attend the University
of California, Berkeley.

AT SALINA AND BARTON COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE SIGN THREE NEW 2+2
AGREEMENTS: Officials with Kansas State University at Salina
and Barton County Community College recently signed three new 2
+ 2 agreements which allow students to earn an associate's degree
from the community college and transfer credits to K-State to complete
a bachelor's degree.

The Kansas State University Aero Design Team placed first out of
27 teams in the Society of Automotive Engineers Aero Design West

University students will serve as counselors for a special program

allows new students to spend three days and two nights at K-State,
establishing connections with current students, faculty and staff
while learning student success strategies and K-State traditions.

HUBBELL RECEIVES COMPETITIVE SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP: A Kansas
State University faculty member has received a summer research fellowship
for her project regarding the exile of former French citizens of
Algeria, the Pieds-Noirs. Amy Hubbell, assistant professor of modern
languages, was awarded a $750 Northeast Modern Language Association
summer research fellowship for "Reconstructing the Past: The
Pieds-Noirs 45 Years after Algerian Independence."

Larry Takemoto, university distinguished professor of biology, will
receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Association for
Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. The award recognizes Takemoto's
many contributions to the organization, both as president and as
a member of its board of trustees.
