K-STATE ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING STUDENT SELECTED FOR WASHINGTON, D.C., INTERNSHIP

MANHATTAN -- Anatoliy Zeltser, senior in architectural engineering at Kansas State University, has been chosen as one of 11 summer 2007 interns for the Washington Internships for Students of Engineering program.

The program brings together college students from across the country to spend nine weeks, June 4 to Aug. 3, in Washington, D.C. They learn how government officials make decisions on technological issues and also see how engineers can contribute to legislative and regulatory public policy decisions.

The internship program was founded in 1980 through the collaborative efforts of several professional engineering societies. Zeltser's internship is sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, which works to advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigerating.

"I am quite pleased to receive this internship because it has shown me that my hard work is paying off," Zeltser said. "I'm blessed with the ability to travel to new places and have the opportunity to meet interesting individuals."

Zeltser, Overland Park, said he will get to use communication and people skills to acquire information and put together reports on public policy issues on a topic that he and his sponsor pick. He will have the chance to meet with government officials and engineers who are experienced in their field of work.

"He is a very attentive and hardworking student," said Julia Keen, K-State assistant professor of architectural engineering. "He always participates during lecture time and isn't afraid to ask in-depth questions."

"I am truly humble to my mentors from my past work experiences, as well as my professors at Kansas State University in my field of study," Zeltser said. "Without their guidance and knowledge, I could not have achieved some of my accomplishments that I have strived to today."
