Robert J. Shoop, educational law expert at Kansas State University, is nationally
recognized as a forensic expert in the area of school law, with a focus on sexual
harassment, abuse prevention and risk management.
He has appeared as a guest on CNN, the "Today Show," ABC's "20/20," MSNBC with Lester Holt, "Day and Date," the "Jim Bohannon Show," "The Oliver North Show," "The Mark Furman Show," "The Mark Walberg Show," ESPN's "Outside the Lines" with Bob Ley and Fox News with Greg Kelly.
He is a member of the editorial advisory board for Educator's Guide to Controlling Sexual Harassment, and has served as a forensic expert witness in more than 60 court cases.
Since 1976, Shoop has been a professor at K-State and Senior Scholar in the Leadership Studies program. He is the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Professor and the Outstanding Undergraduate Professor Awards, both from K-State. He is president of Quality Work Environments Inc., a professional consulting group, and serves as a consultant to school districts, universities and corporations in the area of standards of care and harassment and abuse prevention. Shoop has conducted training for school districts, universities and corporations across the country.
Shoop is author or co-author of 19 books including "An Anatomy of a Lawsuit" (Corwin Press, 2005), "Virtuous Leadership" (Thomson Press, 2005), "Sexual Exploitation of Students: How to Spot It and Stop It," (Corwin Press, 2004), "A Principal's Quick Guide to School Law: Reducing Liability, Law Suits, and Other Potential Legal Tangles" (Corwin Press, 2002), "Sexual Harassment on Campus: A Guide for Administrators, Faculty and Students" (Allyn & Bacon, 1996), "How To Stop Sexual Harassment in Our Schools" (Allyn & Bacon, 1994), "Sexual Harassment in Our Schools: What Teachers and Parents Need to Know to Spot It and Stop It" (Allyn & Bacon, 1994), "A Primer for School Risk Management" (Allyn & Bacon, 1993) and "School Law for the Principal" (Allyn & Bacon, 1992).
He also is the author of more than 100 journal articles, monographs and book chapters, and has produced six educational video programs, including "Sexual Harassment: What is it and Why Should I Care?" "Sexual Harassment: It's Hurting People," and "Preventing Sexual Harassment." These productions have received national and international recognition including the first-place award in the 1996 National Council of Family Relations Annual Media Competition; 1996 Gold Award of Merit, Houston Film Festival; and 1995 Golden Camera Award, International Film and Video Festival.
