Assistant to the president
Sue Peterson makes the Statehouse home during the 90-day Kansas Legislative sessions each year for intense dawn-to-dusk work. Peterson serves as assistant to the president on governmental relations at Kansas State University.
Before coming to K-State, she was campaign manager and executive assistant for governmental affairs to former Kansas Gov. Mike Hayden, administrative assistant to the speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, administrative assistant to the majority leader of the Kansas House of Representatives, and research and political director for the Kansas Republican party. Her wide variety of expertise also qualified her to teach a course on "Kansas Politics and Government" at K-State.
Peterson has been a member of the K-State University Campus United Way Committee, the Riley County Court-Appointed Special Advocate Board, the Kaw Valley Girl Scout Council board of directors, the board of trustees for the Flint Hills Regional Leadership Program, the Manhattan Rotary Club, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and the Taxation Bureau. She has also been a member of the executive committee of the Kansas Republican Party, the Capitol City Young Republicans and a delegation aide for Kansas during the Republican National Convention in 1988.
Peterson received her bachelor's degree in history and political science from K-State and her master's degree in public administration from the University of Kansas. She has been in her current position, advising the president of K-State on political issues pertaining to the university, since 1989.
