Professor and head of the department of finance
Eric Higgins has served as head of K-State's department of finance since August 2008. An award-winning teacher, he has taught a variety of finance courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. His honors include K-State's Commerce Bank Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award and the College of Business Administration's Ralph Reitz Outstanding Teaching Award. The college's graduate students also named him the professor of the semester in 2003.
Higgins' areas of research include financial institutions and markets and market efficiency. His work has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Financial Review, the Journal of Financial Research and the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. In addition, his research has been presented at the prestigious Bank Structure Conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and at conferences hosted by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. His research has also been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the American Banker and on CNBC.
Prior to joining K-State in 2001, Higgins served on the finance faculty at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He received his doctorate in finance from Florida State University in 1996, and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's in finance from K-State in 1992.
