Interacting with students and preparing them for the future
is where Yar Ebadi, dean of the College of Business Administration,
finds the most satisfaction. When appointed dean in 1996, his
goals were to advance the business program at K-State, making
it the top choice among Kansas high school students, to gain
reaccreditation, and to continue making special efforts to spend
time with students.
In 1998, the College of Business Administration earned reaccreditation, an honor only 25 percent of the nation's business schools receive. Since Ebadi's appointment, student enrollment in the College of Business Administration has increased by more than 40 percent, student placement has continuously improved and student scholarships have more than tripled.
Prior to his current position as dean of the College of Business Administration, Ebadi served as interim dean of the college in 1995, associate dean 1992-95 and department head of management 1988-92. He has also served as the Robin Hagens Maupin Chair in Business since 1992. Prior to coming to K-State, Ebadi held various faculty positions at Kabul University in Afghanistan and Indiana University.
Ebadi received his bachelor's degree from Kabul University and his master's degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, both in mechanical engineering. He received his M.B.A. in production and operations management and his doctorate in management from Indiana University. He received additional professional certifications from the University of Minnesota and from Harvard University.
Ebadi is active in numerous academic, professional and university organizations. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, Sigma Iota Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma honoraries. His professional memberships include the Academy of Management, the Decision Sciences Institute and The Institute of Management Science. Ebadi has served on numerous committees including the University Strategic Committee, Council of Academic Deans and several major search committees. He is an active member of Rotary and the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. In 1987, he was awarded the College of Business Administration's Outstanding Teacher of the Year and served as president of the Midwest Business Dean's Association in 2001-2002.
