Brock holds the R.M. Seaton Professional Journalism Chair at Kansas
State University's A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
At K-State he teaches News and Feature Writing, Advanced News and
Feature Writing and Business and Economic Reporting.
For more than a decade he was a business editor and columnist at The New York Times. For six years he wrote that paper's "Seniority" retirement column and was the author of the "Off the Rack" media column prior to that. Brock has also worked as an editor and reporter for The Wall Street Journal, The Houston Chronicle and The Louisville Courier Journal.
The author of "Retire on Less Than You Think: The New York Times Guide to Planning Your Financial Future," (Henry Holt/Times Books, 2004), "Live Well on Less Than You Think: The New York Times Guide to Achieving Your Financial Freedom," (Times Books/Henry Holt, 2005) and "Health Care on Less Than You Think: The New York Times Guide to Getting Affordable Coverage," (Times Books/Henry Holt, 2006).
Brock holds an master's degree in education from Temple University and a bachelor's degree in English literature from Hanover College. Before coming to K-State in 2004, he was an adjunct assistant professor in the graduate school of journalism at New York University for 10 years. He also has served as a Fellow at the Washington Journalism Center, with a concentration in public affairs reporting.
Brock continues to be a contributor to The New York Times.
